Yes, We Still Have Apples!

We still have lots of apples available for the picking!

Fuji, Gold Rush, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious and Braeburn apples, you will have no problem finding tons to pick!

(Left to Right: Gold Rush, Fuji, Golden Delicious)

All these varieties are great for eating, applesauce and baking!

My best guesstimate is that we will have apples available until mid-November.  I'll keep you posted.

I think this apple season has had the best weather on record!  Just so crazy not to have an apple season that was filled with many rainy days.  We are very grateful.  That to say though, I can't wait for a day of pouring rain that I can be inside hibernating under a blanket.  Ha!  Just feel like Oregon without that!

Gold Rush are Ripe! One of the Best for Cider/Hard Cider. Also Great for Eating, Baking and Salads.

Apple variety availability updated below on Monday, 10/19/15.

Gold Rush have a kick of flavor...tart with a hint of sweetness.

They are a good apple for many things.  Eating, Cooking, Baking, Applesauce, Salads, Juice and Hard Cider. Medium to small size.  Good Keepers too!

My cousins made some cider with Gold Rush this weekend and they say it made the lightest, clearest cider compared to some of the other apples.  They liked using 3 Gold Rush to 1 Braeburn mix for the flavor.  They canned some too and will give me more feedback as it stores.  Companies that make hard cider call us frequently interested in the Gold Rush.

We will most likely have apples to pick until mid November so you have lots of time to get all the apples you need!!  I will keep you posted on availability.

Other Apple Variety Availability:

Fuji:  3 rows with trees still loaded halfway down.
Braeburn: Earlier I said we have 1/4 of a row left, but I forgot we still have a whole corner section in the older orchard area right by the road!!  So we have lots of Braeburn left.
Golden Delicious:  So many left out there.  Ask us if you can't find them readily.
Red Delicious:  Plentiful.
Pink Lady:  10 trees left with apples.  The ones that aren't as pink, still have great flavor.  I did some taste testing :)
 Granny Smith:  Lots and lots.
Rome:  2 rows with 1/4 of the row left.  The trees that have apples are loaded so there are still lots of apples available.
Jonagold:  Done.

Braeburn are finally ripe enough to pick! Also the Scavenger Hunt Winner is Announced!

They finally passed our taste test for being sweet enough!  They are ready to pick now!

Braeburn apples

Braeburn apples

Braeburn are a great all-around apple with a sweet, firm crunch.   You can use it for pretty much anything...baking, applesauce, eating, etc.  Pretty good keeper too.

We have a full row of these, plus many trees in the corner section of the older area.

Other Apple Variety Availability:

Granny Smith:  Lots available.

Rome: Lots available.

Fuji: Tons and tons.  Lots of loaded trees out there.

Golden Delicious:  Lots and lots.  Just ask and we can make sure you can find them, because most are the in the front, older section of the orchard.  Such a sweet, crunchy eating quality right now.

Red Delicious:  Many trees available in the front, older section of the orchard.  Ask and we can guide you to them.

Jonagold:  Getting pretty sparse.  You can still find some here and there at the far ends of the rows.

Melrose:  Done.

And the Scavenger Hunt Winner is........

Mary W and family!  Congrats you have won a free bucket of apples for your participation in our scavenger hunt.  Great job!

Thank you to all who attended our Apple Festival!  You guys made it fun!  It was a great time despite a little bit of windy/rainy weather later in the day.

For our applesauce tasting, many people were surprised how much they liked the Golden Delicious!  That was a fun fact to learn.  Golden Delicious straight from the tree are definitely a different ballgame then from the store.  Melrose, Ruby Jon and Pink Lady were also among the favorites.

On another note, we pre-picked some buckets of many different varieties of apples.  If you are interested in them, they are $12 per bucket.  We will have them available for the next few days.
