Rainboots and Umbrellas

The rain has arrived! It is finally time to dust off those rainboots and umbrellas! Head to the orchard and pick some apples to make some nice hot apple cider or a warm apple pie to enjoy on a rainy day.
This week we are in the sweet spot of the season. There are a few early season apples wrapping up while all of the winter apples are ripe at the same time. That makes for quite the variety of apples to choose from. If you were still hoping for some Jonagold, Golden Delicious, or Melrose, come SOON! We anticipate being sold out of these within the next 7-10 days.
We have a HUGE selection of great pumpkins that are hoping to be found in the patch and taken home for carving.
Tomatoes are not as big of fans of the rain, so we have picked a large amount of what was ripe on the vine to have at the stand for we-pick to avoid splitting. We will still have a large amount of ripe on the vine ready to be picked as well. Anything that wasn't quite fully red will avoid the splitting.

Gold Rush, Cripps Pink, Braeburn, and Pumpkins!

Another weekend of beautiful weather is here!  Perfect weather for Apple Picking and Pumpkin Hunting.
This week we have added Gold Rush, Braeburn, and Cripps Pink to the Ripe and Ready list. Which means we have reached the fun time of year where anything you find in the orchard is Ripe and Ready! Adventure through the rows and check out some varieties that are new to you. Anything you come across is ready for picking.
Gold Rush is a sweet-tart, crisp apple that almost tastes as though it is carbonated. Sounds crazy, but try it and you will see what we mean. It is fantastic for eating, baking, and is the #1 apple in the orchard for cider! Gold Rush is a storing apple as well.
Braeburn is a sweet, crunchy apple that is wonderful for eating and baking. This apple is also a storing apple.
Cripps Pink, also known as Pink Lady, is a fun sweet-tart apple that is fantastic for eating, baking, and applesauce. This one is also a storing apple.
We have a LOT of pumpkins still to be found in the Pumpkin Patch! Big ones, small ones, pumpkins for baking, and even pink and blue ones!
This weather is extending our Tomato season and we still have a plentiful amount of romas and a good amount of slicer. If you are searching for slicers, venture down the heirloom rows. We are finding a lot of people getting great slicers down those rows.
Pears are here! This week we have a limited supply of Bosc and Concorde. We have been selling out of pears quick this year, so make sure to get these while we have them.

Storing apples and the Largest Apple Contest

The Largest Apple Contest is back! This year we will announce a new winner every Monday for 3 weeks starting on October 17th. The winner each week will receive TWO FREE BUCKETS OF U-PICK APPLES! The contest is judged by weight, so make sure to stop and have your Largest Apple recorded at the stand to be entered!
This week we have added Fuji, Rome Beauty, and Granny Smith to the Ripe and Ready list!
Fuji are a crisp, sweet apple. When baked, it tastes as if the fall spices have already been added. Fuji is also a storing apple and can last for months when stored properly. Last year we sold out of Fuji within 5 days. Make sure to come soon if you were hoping for some this year!
Rome Beauty are a deep red colored apple that are simply beautiful. They are fantastic for baking whole. Core out the middle from the top of the apple, add some butter and sugar, and bake. Rome Beauty are also a storing apple.
Granny Smith are the #1 pie apple. They are tart when eaten, but when baked their flavor develops perfectly. Granny Smith are also a storing apple.
Tomatoes are doing great. We have an abundance of Roma's and slicers are being found too. We will have tomatoes available for u-pick until the first frost. With the weather we are having, that should mean several more weeks of tomato picking!
Pumpkins are doing fantastic as well and there is a huge variety to choose from still in the patch.
